Udupi, Jul 14: Souharda Samiti, Udyavar under the aegis of Catholic Sabha St Xavier Church, Udyavar organized Iftar get-together on account of Ramadan at Afsa auditorium, Udyavar here.
In his keynote M A Gafoor, secretary of KPCC said, "Ramadan is not just about fasting alone, it teaches the importance of life. Thirty days of fasting teaches us how to live the remaining eleven months of the year. In the month of Ramadan special attention is given to prayer. At this time God will be pleased and pardon our sins. It also leads to discipline and respect towards other religions. People who follow the Quran are Muslims."
The introductory speech was given by Fr Roque D’Souza, parish priest, St Francis Xavier Church, Udyavar.
Veronica Cornelio, president of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited and businessmen, Amrith Shenoy and Suresh Shetty Gurme wished all the Muslims gathered.
The newly elected panchayat president Sughandhi Shekar, vice-president Riyaz Palli and 30 other panchayat members were honoured on the occasion.
Fr William Martis, director of Inter Religious Dialogue Commision, Ganesh Kumar vice-president, taluk panchayat, Girish Kumar, member taluk panchayat, Judith Periera, president Catholic Sabha, Udyavar parish, Nagesh Kumar, secretary of MP Oscar Fernandes were present.
Wilfred D’Souza, president Souharda Samiti welcomed the gathering. Mary D’Souza secretary of Souharda Samiti extended the vote of thanks. Steevan Colaco and Abid compered the programme.
