Bengaluru, Jul 14 (DHNS): Farmers continue to end their lives with five of them committing suicide and two making attempt on their lives in the State on Monday.
Siddesh (40) of Koonabevu village in Chitradurga taluk hung himself at his house. According to his family members he had borrowed about Rs five lakh from banks and an equal sum from private persons. Turuvanur police have registered a case.
Seventy-year-old Madevappa Marthandappa Ganganagoudra ended his life by consuming poison in Aladagere village of Hirekereru taluk of Haveri district. He is said to have borrowed Rs two lakh loan for growing crops on his one and half acres of land.
Basavaraja Kudari (31) committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his house in Kabennur village of Dharwad taluk. He is said to have borrowed Rs two lakh from a bank.
Eshwarappa Manikeppa (50) committed suicide at his house in Madargaon village of Humanabad taluk in Bidar district. It is said that he had loans of Rs four lakh from banks and moneylenders. Santosh (25) hung himself at his house in Ijjalaghatta village of Nagamagala taluk in Mandya district. He owned two acres of land and had borrowed loan from bank and private persons.
Rudragouda Channaveeragouda Patila (42) made an attempt on his life by consuming rat poison in Bhagavada village of Kundagol taluk in Hubballi-Dharwad district. He has been admitted to Kims hospital. According to his mother, Patila has borrowed Rs two lakh from a bank and another Rs two lakh from private persons.
A farmer with his wife and three children attempted suicide by consuming poison at Melinabaise village attached to Yadur gram panchayat in Shivamogga, after a bank reportedly refused to sanction him loan.
Bhujanga Shetty had borrowed Rs six lakh from a bank in Yadur, but defaulted in repayment. However, he had repaid the sum with interest totalling to Rs 12 lakh during a Lok Adalat. He again approached the bank for loan which rejected his request. The neighbours rescued the family.
