Bengaluru, Jul 12 (DHNS): The BJP has decided not to support the JD(S)’ proposal to move a ‘no confidence motion’ against the State government in the Legislative Assembly.
JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy had mooted the proposal because he was denied an opportunity to speak on corruption in the Lokayukta institution on the floor of the Lower House in Belagavi.
“The BJP will not support any ‘no confidence motion’ as we do not have the numbers. The internal contradictions in the Congress will itself pull down the Siddaramaiah government,” BJP State President Pralhad Joshi said in a statement on Saturday.
The combined strength of the BJP and the JD(S) in the 224-member Assembly is 84 (BJP:44 and JD-S: 40) as against 123 of the Congress. The Legislature is going to resume in Bengaluru from Monday. Joshi has also appealed to Kumaraswamy to “rethink” on moving the ‘no confidence motion.’ “A call attention motion can be moved to discuss the failures of the State government,” Joshi stated.
