Arrested FIFA official accepts extradition to the US

Geneva, July 11 (IANS): One of the seven FIFA officials who were arrested on May 27 and have remained in detention in Switzerland has agreed to be extradited to the US, the Federal Office of Justice has confirmed.

The Swiss authorities on Friday did not specify which of the seven officials accepted extradition, as the person requested anonymity in the matter, reports Efe.

The US police have 10 days to collect and transfer the detainee.

Seven senior FIFA officials were arrested in late May in Zurich where there were attending the annual FIFA Congress.

The detainees stand accused of having received bribes from companies in exchange for marketing rights of football events, such as regional and continental championships in North and South America.
