Mangaluru, Jul 8: Some students of Vijaya College Mulky fought among themselves within the college campus on the evening of Tuesday July 7. Niaz, a first year B Com student of the college residing near Kolnadu near Mulky got himself admitted into the government hospital at Mulky.
Niaz said in his complaint delivered to Mulky police that he was walking in the college campus after classes on Tuesday, when college students, Mohit, Suraj, Gautam, Tanuj and Sharat suddenly waylaid him and beat him up. Niaz said that the attackers, who were drunk, accused him of staring at them angrily.
Abubakker, member of Popular Front of India's (PFI) Dakshina Kannada district committee, speaking to media persons, condemned the assault within the premises of Vijaya College during the time Muslims are observing fast on the occasion of the holy month of Ramzan.
Member of Social Democratic Party of India, Muhammed Shariff, criticized the college principal for failing to act against the guilty students who attacked their college mate after getting intoxicated. 'Everything has been captured in the CCTV cameras inside the college campus. The silence of the principal on the issue has given rise to doubts about his intentions. We will complain to principal on Wednesday. If he fails to take action, college managing committee will be approached for redressal of the grievances. Our aim is to ensure that peace and communal harmony prevails in the college,' he said. Some college students and Aziz of PFI were present.
In the meanwhile, Suraj, Gautam, and Tanuj, got admitted into a private hospital at Padubidri. They said in a complaint delivered to Mulky police station that college students, Niaz, Aziz, and Dawood had attacked them.
Mulky police, who have registered both the complaints, are investigating the matter.
