Margao, May 11: Prominent industrialist Mont Cruz on Thursday tendered his resignation from United Goans Democratic Party presidentship.
"Rebelling and joining new party" appears to be a new trend in the scenario of the ensuing assembly election to be held on June 2.
In this regard, when contacted, Cruz said that he was unhappy with UGDP attitude and style of functioning and therefore had tendered his resignation.
Rumours were making rounds that Cruz might join the Nationalist Congress Party. When asked, Cruz further said that he would unveil his political moves in the next two days.
General secretary of UGDP Anacleto Viegas said that the party was already set to take action against Cruz for his anti-party activities and had convened a meeting in this regard on Wednesday with him present, but he (Cruz) left the meeting as it was in progress.
Viegas also said that Cruz was being regularly seen with Dr Wilfred D'Souza, Goa unit president, NCP and with the party workers campaigning in panchayat polls. It was for this reason the UGDP was expected to take action against Cruz.
The UGDP was happy that he (Cruz) tendered his resignation on his own, Viegas said further.
When asked if Cruz was joining his party (NCP), Dr Wilfred D'Souza said he had no idea about it.
In his resignation letter he has said that false allegations of anti-party activities had been levelled against him.
He has sent the resignation letter to UGDP general secretary Ajay Periera, secretary general Viegas and chairman of general council-UGDP Mathew D'Silva.
