Bengaluru, Jul 5: A group six Nigerian students have been arrested by the Wilson Garden police for allegedly assaulting a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The entire incident was caught on CCTV camera installed in the bus.
The six students boarded the BMTC bus from Yelahanka to Shanthinagar in the morning.
The police are verifying the travel documents of the six Nigerians to ascertain their identity and the background.
The BMTC bus conductor has been identified as Nagesh.
According to the police, the incident took place at around 10.30 a.m. when the bus conductor Nagesh asked them to furnish the ticket.
The accused told Nagesh that they have bus passes but when asked to produce it, they refused.
A verbal spat ensued between the BMTC bus conductor and the six Nigerians following which the students assaulted the conductor in the moving bus on Lal Bagh Road.
“We have taken the six Nigerian students into custody for assaulting a bus conductor based on the complaint filed by him,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Sandeep Patil, said.
