Bengaluru, Jul 5: Lottery has been completely banned in the state since 2007. But it is a different matter that it goes on unofficially still.
Some months back there was hue and cry that multi crore rupees lottery business was done with the blessing of top police officers.
Due to pressure from various quarters, the state government decided to hand over the case to the central bureau of investigation (CBI). The proposal sent by the state government to the union home ministry has remained there itself due to some so called technical reasons.
The home ministry has now sought the opinion of the CBI. CBI is reluctant to take up the case as it has to begin from 2007. The issue of ‘old’ itself is a legal impediment for the CBI. It does not want touch the old issue due to technical reasons.
CBI can anytime issue a refusal saying it will not be able to take up the case for technical reasons. That is going to be a relief for the lottery fans and kingpins.
