New Delhi, July 2 (IANS): Indian Super League (ISL) franchise Delhi Dynamos on Thursday signed former India footballer Raman Vijayan as assistant coach for the second season starting in October.
"Delhi Dynamos FC is delighted to secure the services of Raman Vijayan as assistant coach. He will also be the technical director of the club's grassroots programme," a Dynamos release said.
Commenting on his arrival at Dynamos, Vijayan said: "It is a wonderful opportunity to be a part of Delhi Dynamos. The club’s project for grassroots is in line with my vision for growing football in this beautiful city.
"I am not only excited to work with the first team but I am also looking forward to developing the budding footballers of tomorrow."
Raman’s 12-year-long career began with East Bengal FC after which he went on to play for FC Kochin, Mahindra United, Dempo and Mohammedan Sporting. He is one of the two Indian footballers to have finished as top scorer in the National League.
In his four-year stint with the national team, Raman played in the Asian Games, SAFF cup, SAF games as well as the 1998 World Cup Qualifiers held in Qatar.
In the twilight of his playing career, former Indian striker Raman took to coaching. He completed his AFC A license in 2014 and had previously managed South United Club for three years before taking charge at Chennai FC.
