Mangaluru, Jul 2: A person who allegedly stole 18 cell phones and Rs 7,000 in cash from the shop located opposite Govinda Dasa College Suratkal on the night of June 26, stands arrested. The arrested accused has been identified as Hidayat (20), a resident of Thokkottu Chembugudde here. The value of items he stole including cash has been estimated at Rs 70,000.
On Wednesday July 1, police personnel seated in a department vehicle saw him standing near the market of Mangalore Urban Development Authority market at Suratkal with three others. At the sight of the police vehicle, the other three fled while the policemen succeeded in arresting Hidayat.
It is gathered that Hidayat had earlier been involved with the theft of cell phones, laptop, and other items from a mobile shop belonging to the same firm near Kulai sometime back. He also had stolen a motor bike parked under the fly over near Nataraja Talkies, and abandoned it later by the roadside near Krishnapura.
Suratkal station house officer, Cheluvaraju, crime police sub-inspector, Kumareshwaran, and others were involved with the above raid. The accused was produced before the court on Wednesday.
