Montreal, July 1 (IANS): Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter will not travel to Canada to attend the Women's World Cup final on July 5, a FIFA statement said.
The world football governing body added that its secretary general Jerome Valcke would also not come to Canada either, reports Xinhua.
"Due to their current commitments in Zurich, the president and secretary general will remain at FIFA headquarters," a statement said on Tuesday.
Blatter, four days after being re-elected, announced on June 2 that he would resign as FIFA president after an election that is likely to be held late this year or early next year.
United States prosecutors announced indictments on May 27 against nine current and former FIFA officials and five sports marketing businessmen. Blatter has not been accused by the prosecutors but his stewardship of FIFA is being scrutinised.
