Panaji, June 30 (IANS): Protesting workers of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) will organise a different kind of "Chai pe charcha" event from July 1, wearing black clothes and brewing black tea to convey their grievances to the people.
Hundreds of daily wage workers of the CCP, who have been demanding higher wages and regularisation of service, will stage such protests in all the 30 wards in the state capital and offer the tea to the residents, along with their grievances.
"We are trying to make a point here that the ordinary worker can also have a 'Chai pe charcha' in his own way. The black tea and the black clothes will symbolise our protest," said Ajeetsingh Rane, who heads the CCP workers' union.
While the CCP pays Rs.221 per day to its daily wage workers, Rane is demanding a hike to Rs.409 per day.
The CCP is the only municipal corporation in Goa.
The 'Chai pe charcha' (chat over tea) concept was started by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of his campaign strategy before the 2014 general election.
