Munich, June 29 (IANS): German giants Bayern Munich's midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger on Monday said he wants to win a fourth consecutive Bundesliga title with the football club, despite persistent speculation of a potential transfer before the coming season.
He has been heavily linked with a move to English club Manchester United. The 30-year-old is out of contract next summer and featured in just 20 Bundesliga matches last season, and 28 in all competitions, as his side secured a third league title in a row.
Th German international has yet to agree a contract extension with the club but says he wants to win another title with Bayern next season.
"I would like to win the Champions League again, but also once again play as successfully as in the last few years. We are three times German champions. And I think no team has managed it four times. That's a motivation," Schweinsteiger was quoted as saying by German daily Die Welt.
Manchester United has been heavily linked with the midfielder as they seek to strengthen their midfield, with coach Louis van Gaal having managed Schweinsteiger previously during his time at Bayern.
United came close to signing the German international in 2010 before he subsequently signed a new deal with Bayern and Schweinsteiger feels he still has many years left at the top level.
"I feel good and I'm ready to play for the next three years at the top level. That's my goal," he said.
"We also have next year's European Championship 2016. This is obviously a big goal. Not only for me but also for the whole football nation, Germany works for such targets," Schweinsteiger concluded.
