Udupi, Jun 28: District Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Udupi block members staged a protest against district-in-charge minister Shivraj Thangadagi on Saturday June 27 near Clock Tower and sought his resignation.
District BJP convener Mattar Ratnakar Hegde said, “It is very clear that Thangadagi is involved in the Yellalinga murder case. We are fighting against injustice; murder is not a solution to closing down illegal acts.”
He urged stern action and sought revelation of the truth. Hegde demanded that chief minister Siddaramaiah drop Thangadagi from the cabinet. He questioned the law and order situation in the state. “There is need to give a logical end to such crimes. Many such cases have been reported over ten years,” added Hegde.
“Sugarcane growers have not got payment since one year and yet no measures have been taken to tackle the problem. The state government does not respond positively to public desires. Otherwise, party members will come on to the streets and intensify the protest,” said Hegde.
District BJP president Thingale Vikramarjuna Hegde demanded the immediate resignation of Thangadagi because all sources prove that he is directly involved in the offence. “It is a matter of shame,” he added.
He alleged that the state government has indirectly barred the responsibility of anti-rule by withdrawing the cases against anti- nationalists and has lost the moral right to speak about human interest activities.
Block president Raghavendra Kini, Uday Kumar Shetty, state secretary Shyamala Kunder, Sheela K Shetty, and Geethanjali Suvarna were present.
