Bengaluru, Jun 22: Archbishop of Bangalore Most Rev Dr Bernard Moras has condemned the latest incident of the rape of a 47-year-old Catholic nun in a nursing home at Raipur in Chattisgarh State in the early hours of June 20, Saturday.

“It is shocking to hear of one more case of a sex attack on a Catholic nun (47) in a Nursing Home in the early hours of Saturday June 2o, in Raipur. Together with the Bishops of Karnataka and Leaders of various Christian Churches and Denominations, we the All Karnataka United Christian Forum for Human Rights, join with all Christians and all people of good will throughout this country in roundly condemning this dastardly act,’’ the Archbishop said.

Archbishop Moras, who is also the President of Karnataka Region Catholic Bishops’ Council (KRCBC) and All Karnataka United Christians Forum for Human Rights (AKUCFHR), in a press statement: “I pray that people everywhere will respect the human dignity of one another, particularly of women and in even more particularly of those consecrated to God.’’

According to information, the nun was found semi-clad, unconscious and with her hands tied inside a medical centre run by Christian missionaries near Pandri locality in the heart of Raipur on Saturday.

The Raipur police said the nun first said that she was raped but later claimed it was attempt to rape.

"Medical reports are yet to be received and the survivor is changing her statements," inspector general of police, (Raipur range) GP Singh said.

"The nun is in acute trauma and undergoing treatment. She said two masked men entered her room in search of cash and valuables and assaulted her after they failed to find their booty," he said.

A team of two women constables has been formed to help the survivor feel comfortable and narrate the incident coherently. Her medical reports will confirm if it was gang-rape, rape or attempt to rape, police said.

The Text of the Press Statement issued by Archbishop Moras:

What do we elect a government for ? To take care of citizens in Mongolia ? or only to take care of the Ambanis, Adanis & Ramdevs etc. ?
Sorry, did not want to bring politics into this but can't help when we have such a spineless government controlled by the Corporates and Nagpur and turning a complete blind eye to the problems of Indian Christian minority who are being persecuted by fanatics.

It is condemnable to rape a woman without her consent and a Nun no go.They are People consecrated to social works and God,left behind worlds enjoyment. These People from Raichur showed again they are un educated ,want to assault religious People.Govt.doesnt Show any signs to punish them.Atleast normal People should have protested against it.The victim is now certainly under schock and dont know what is Happening to her.A normal test should atleast Show whether she is being raped or not. Here the Police or officers are also not cooperative.hope the Nun will get back her health.am sure not her mental peace. These guys must have come with fixed idea of it when less People are there.Hope they will find and catch them ,punish them.should present them naked in public so that they should feel how it is for a woman specially a religious Person when tried to rape or rape.
