Belthangady, Jun 22: With the efforts put by Akhil Karnataka Janajagruti Vedike, a sister concern of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Village Development Project, thousands have got rid of their dependence on liquor. De-addiction camps being organized by the Vedike have been immensely popular.
A person, whose name has been withheld to protect his privacy, has placed a liquor sachet into the temple donation box at Dharmasthala along with a letter, and taken a pledge never to touch liquor in his life again. He confesses that he was a chain smoker in the past, and had got rid of this addiction by placing a packet of cigarettes into donation box here 27 years ago.
The man, who admits that liquor addiction has played havoc with his financial condition, family and social life, said that he wants to use the strength of his devotion to the Lord to shun liquor. He asserts that he will never touch liquor again, in the letter attached to the sachet, in which his tribulations and trials have been explained in full.
