Paris, June 20 (IANS): The International Automobile Federation (FIA) confirmed a 20-place grid penalty against McLaren's Spanish driver Fernando Alonso and a 10-place penalty against Australian Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo at the Austrian Grand Prix for engine changes.
Alonso, who will start the Austrian Grand Prix from the back of the grid, was subject to the penalty after he had his internal combustion engine replaced for the fifth time in the season, incurring a 10-place grid penalty, FIA confirmed on Friday.
The Spaniard also changed two new turbo elements, exceeding the allowed number in a season, which calls for five punitive steps back each.
Ricciardo received the 10-place grid penalty due to the use of an internal combustion engine for the fifth time this season.
