Kolkata, June 19 (IANS): In a first of its kind competition involving 'women’s safety’, about 100 schools and 500 students will take part in the All Bengal Girls and Women’s Karate and Self Defence Championship to be held here on June 27 and 28.
The events will involve two types of the art, namely ‘Kata’ and ‘Kumite’ (free-style) at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra, it was announced on Friday.
The age categories involve students below six years and also 18 years and above.
“The event has been organised with the sole aim of helping women and girls protect themselves. We should have done this a lot earlier. It would give them a lot of self-confidence. They will hugely benefit from the event,” said Joydeep Mondal of Karate-Do Association Of Bengal.
