Fishermen warned about rain, strong winds in Karnataka


Bengaluru, June 18 (IANS): With most places in Karnataka likely to experience rain and thundershowers on Thursday, fishermen have been cautioned to stay off the sea as strong winds may blow along and off the Karnataka coast, the Met Office here said.

According to weather officials, winds from the westerly direction reaching up to speeds of 45 to 55 km per hour were likely in the next 24 hours from Thursday.

While the minimum temperature here was recorded at 20.1 degrees Celsius, the maximum temperature was likely to hover around 28 degrees, the weather office said.

There was widespread rainfall in coastal Karnataka, south interior Karnataka and a few places in north interior Karnataka on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Honavar recorded the highest rainfall of 10 cm while Manki and Ankola of Uttara Kannada district each experienced 8 cm rainfall. Mulki, Gersoppa and Kumta in the same district recorded 7 cm each, officials said.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has weakened over north interior Karnataka, officials added.

It rained 1.2 mm and 1.7 mm in Bengaluru city and HAL Airport, respectively, on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, Bengaluru recorded a maximum temperature of 27.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 20.1 degrees Celsius, average for this time of the season.
