Lisicki's world record of 27 aces in a match

Birmingham, June 18 (IANS): German tennis ace Sabine Lisicki set a world record for serving aces in a women's singles match by firing 27 aces past Swiss Belinda Bencic to win her second round outing at the Aegon Classic here.

The 2013 Wimbledon finalist hit 16 in her first set and 11 in the second as she powered to a 6-1, 7-6 (7-4) win on Wednesday.

"It's obviously a good weapon to have on grass," Lisicki was quoted as saying by www.si.com on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old broke the previous record of 24 aces which was held jointly by Serena Williams and Kaia Kanepi of Estonia.

Lisicki also broke the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) record for the most aces in a single match.

She also holds the record for the fastest recorded serve of all time-a 131 mph serve against Ana Ivanovic in Stanford in 2014.
