Gold worth Rs.2.65 crore seized at Goa airport


Panaji, June 17 (IANS): Customs officials in Goa on Wednesday seized over 9 kg of gold worth Rs.2.65 crore at the Dabolim international airport from a Karnataka woman who arrived in Goa on an Air India flight from the Gulf region.

A customs spokesperson said the woman was identified as Shahin Hussain, a resident of the port town of Bhatkal in north Karnataka.

"During her search, we found gold weighing 9.4 kg worth Rs.2.65 crore in the international market," the spokesperson said.

The woman was detained for further questioning.

On June 11, customs officials in another raid had seized gold worth Rs.2.15 crore, also from a Bhatkal resident who arrived here from Dubai.
