Mangaluru, Jun 16: Dakshina Kannada Youth Congress members descended on the streets here on Tuesday June 16 demanding the resignation of external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj over allegations that she facilitated former IPL chief Lalit Modi's travel to Portugal from the UK for his wife's treatment last year.
Protesting in front of the MCC building at Lalbagh here on Tuesday June 16, MLA Mohiuddin Bava, said, "BJP came to power by fooling the people in the name of black money. External affairs minister Sushma Swaraj’s alleged assistance to Lalit Modi has shocked the entire country. If PM Narendra Modi has any morality, he should ask Sushma Swaraj to resign from her post. BJP has no right to remain in power."
Mithun Rai, district president of Youth Congress, said, "Union minister Sushma Swaraj should resign. The true face of BJP has been exposed. Prior to the Lok Sabha elections, Narendra Modi had assured of bringing black money back from the Swiss Bank but he has failed to fulfil his promise. The external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj who facilitated tainted Lalit Modi should resign from her post."
He further said that BJP had also favoured senior advocate with whom Sushma Swaraj's daughter was practising by appointing him as a judge.
Corporator Shashidhar Hegde also spoke on the occasion. Placards carrying photos of Sushma Swaraj and Lalit Modi were burnt by the protesters. They also shouted slogans against the BJP-led union government.
Praveen Chandra Alva, Nazir Bajal, Suresh Ballal and others were present.
