Panaji, Apr 26: Launching itself in Goan politics, former prime minister H D Deve Gowda-led Janata Dal (S) will focus on Karnataka-model of governance during the forthcoming state legislative assembly elections scheduled on June two, party officials stated.

"There are several things which are successfully implemented in Karnataka by H D Kumarswamy-led government. We will promise people the same model which will work for the welfare for agriculture and cooperative sector along with overall development," Vinayak Naik, Goa unit president, Janata Dal (S), told reporters here. He, however, refused to have any truck with BJP in Goa.

Janata Dal (S) which is trying to gain roots in this coastal state has began canvassing for its party though it is yet to finalize the list of candidates, the leader stated. He said that the party intends to contest up to 20 out of 40 seats for the assembly elections.

Naik stated that party president H D Deve Gowda would be camping for seven days in Goa to chalk out election strategy while Karnataka chief minister H D Kumarswamy will address public meetings in certain constituencies.

"Kumarswamy's schemes have injected enthusiasm amongst farmers and cooperative sector. We will implement the same schemes, if voted to power in Goa," said Naik whose party mostly banks on sizeable around three lac votes of migrant population.

Toeing another popular line, the party has also decided to include demand of recognizing Marathi as official language of Goa in its manifesto. "Marathi will get equal status as Konkani has, if party is voted to power," he added.

Naik said that they were having talks of alliance with regional parties like Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) for ensuing elections.
