Mangalore, Apr 26: The issue of electrical maintenance workers who lost their jobs as a result of change in streetlight maintenance contract, grabbed the limelight at the MCC general meeting held here on Wednesday April 25.

Speaking on the occasion, corporator Shankar Bhat said that the electrical workers who had been working for MCC for the last 20 years were now unemployed because of the streetlight maintenance contract and therefore the MCC should take steps to provide them with alternate jobs.

Commissioner Krishnappa Poojary said that a meeting with the streetlight contractor will be convened and a request will be made to include the workers in the maintenance job.

Among those present were mayor Vijaya Arun who presided over the meet and other corporators.
