Mumbai, Apr 26: In a development that caught police officials on the wrong foot on Wednesday, mob boss Dawood Ibrahim’s sister Haseena Parkar went missing from her Nagpada residence. Parkar, whose name cropped up in investigations after a builder Krishnamilan Shukla complained to the Anti-Corruption Bureau, vanished without a trace.
Sources in the security establishment believe that she may have “gone into hiding” in the face of the heat piled on her by the local police after they registered cases of extortion, cheating and criminal breach of trust against her involvement in a slum rehabilitation project.
Haseena is believed to have been present in at least two recent meetings between interested parties, where cash changed hands.
Police Commissioner DN Jadhav confirmed her disappearance on Tuesday. “Our teams are looking into the case,” the police chief said.
But what security officials find more troublesome is her “recent equation” with Dawood Ibrahim. Officials said that Dawood may be eyeing a “new role” for his sister.
“We possess information that Haseena had become ‘active’ of late and was taking keen interest in affairs pertaining to the D-Company. She is believed to have significant stakes in the same,” said an Intelligence official.
Haseena Parkar’s movements previously came under the police scanner when she was denied a passport in 2005.
