MLAs’ memo warns CM of ‘consequences’

Porvorim, Jun 13 (TOI): The issues raised by the diocesan society of education with legislators of the minority community recently could affect the BJP-led state government, with the memorandum submitted to chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar on Friday warning that any delay in redressal would have "far-reaching consequences" on the state's educational scenario.

The memorandum is signed by six of the 11 minority community legislators in the state assembly, including two ministers.

While deputy chief minister Francis D'Souza is out of the country, BJP MLAs Carlos Almeida (Vasco), Glenn Ticlo (Aldona) and Nilesh Cabral (Curchorem) have not signed the memorandum.

The memorandum lists the issues raised by the society as—no permissions to start BSc, BEd college at Carmel college, Nuvem; to open new higher secondary schools at Usgao-Bicholim, Chaudi-Canacona, Pernem; to start Class V at Seraulim, Class VI at Bhatpal, Class I at Vitaldaswaddo, Morjim, and grants to the DEd institute at Nirmala college, Panaji.

A member of the delegation that met the CM said Parsekar expressed unhappiness over the society calling Christian MLAs to vent its grievances and assured only to study the demands and to consider sympathetically the more urgent and deserving issues.
