Udupi, Jun 10: Police personnel from Hiriyadka station in the district arrested six persons, who reportedly had stolen gold ornaments from Hassan. Gold ornaments worth Rs 2.05 lac was confiscated from their possession.
Hiriyadka police sub-inspector, Rafique, had taken into custody three persons from near Hiriyadka bus stand, after finding their movement to be suspicious, on June 9. During interrogation, they revealed that three others had joined them in a theft at Hassan. 44.25 grams of gold nuggets made by melting the stolen ornaments and ornaments were recovered from their possession. Their three associates were arrested from the bus stand in the town. From them, 38.15 grams of gold ornaments were recovered.
The accused arrested are Kala alias Sethukumar, Rajesh Gosavi, Ashok Gosavi, Subhas Gosavi, Ashok alias Babru, and Kumar Gosavi. On being produced in the court, all the accused were remanded to judicial custody.
This operation was undertaken under the direction of superintendent of police (SP), Annamalai, guidance of additional SP, Santosh Kumar, and supervision of deputy SP, K M Chandrashekhar, and Brahmavar police circle inspector, Arun B Nayak.
