Puttur, Jun 9: Illegal sand transportation has intensified in view of the fact that sand mining and transportation will be completely banned fromJune 15 to August 31. Although sand transportation has been now allowed within the district till June 15, a number of trucks have been seen violating this rule and transporting sand to other districts with impunity.

Taking serious view of the fact that sand continued to be taken outside the district overlooking the ban order, a team led by the tahsildar laid in wait at the checkpoints in the outskirts of the town and seized 30 trucks with loads of sand.
The tahsildar said that there is no provision to release these trucks after imposing fine, as violation was done during ban period. He said he will act further in the matter as per the decision taken by the district deputy commissioner.
