Mangaluru, Jun 8: The Dakshina Kannada unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), felicitated MP Nalin Kumar Kateel for being the first MP at the state-level to utilize MP funds for development work in the constituency.
Prior to the felicitation, Banu Prakash, vice-president said, “It is possible only in the BJP, wherein a common man can be anyone from a gram panchayath representative to PM due to sincere work and value-based politics. Nalin Kumar Kateel, who had been a Sangh Pracharak, as per the advice of the Sangh, moved to the party to organize work. Following the advice of the Sangh, he also contested in the elections. He never lobbied for this opportunity. The sincere efforts of party workers made it possible for him to win against B Janardhana Poojary who is also a former minister, lawyer, and senior politician. He could effectively use the funds for developmental work because of his many tours of his constituency. He is always accessible to his party activists due to his friendly approach. He should be the role model for all other MPs in developmental work.”
After receiving the felicitation, Kateel said, “The BJP has secured 63 percent votes in panchayath polls. Already 123 gram panchayaths are in the hands of BJP-supported candidates. This is because of the immense work of party activists, anti-Congress sentiments in the state, and one year of developmental work by the Modi government in the center. I am a common Swayam Sevak of the Sangh. Though I was not interested in politics, as per the directions from the Sangh, I came into politics and contested MP elections without any personal interest. I have been successful in utilizing the funds because of the guidance from party leaders and party workers.”
“Due to the foreign policy of Modi’s government, the entire world is looking towards India. Modi’s government did in one year what the Congress government could not do in 10 years. The union government has already sanctioned Rs 400 crore for the Smart City project, Rs 1,800 crore grant for the Shimoga-Mangaluru four-lane road, Rs 1,400 crore for the BC Road- Hassan Road, and Talapady-Kundapur road work will be sped up. The developmental work which has been started will be finished by the end of July. The center will sanction Rs 1,500 crore for airport extension if the state government provides 250 acre land,” added Kateel.
He also said that the Modi government has withdrawn the ban on areca considering the areca growers and farmers. “The center has sanctioned Rs 5,000 crore for development work in the district,” he said.
District president Prathap Simha Nayak, Lalaji Mendon, and Capt Ganesh Karnik were present.
