Goa Youth Congress workers injured while burning minister's effigy

Panaji, June 6 (IANS): Two Youth Congress workers on Saturday received burn injuries, while burning the effigy of Goa Tourism minister Dilip Parulekar, in protest against his comments about the gang-rape of two women from Delhi.

The injured are Youth Congress general secretary Varad Mardolkar and a worker Deepak Pai , a Congress spokesperson said.

On Saturday afternoon, Mardolkar, Pai along with other Youth Congress workers were burning Parulekar's effigy below the state Congress headquarters in Panaji, when they were injured after the fire flared up suddenly and singed the duo.

Parulekar on Friday had called the gangrape a "stunt" and said there was much being made about the gangrape, despite the fact that the accused as well as the victims were not locals.

"I have said it earlier, I am saying it again, wherever tourism activity flourishes such minor incidents happen," Parulekar had also said.
