Dortmund, June 4 (IANS): Borussia Dortmund will start a fresh era from the coming season under new head coach Thomas Tuchel, who has signed a three-year contract with the German football club.
A couple of days after coach Jurgen Klopp's men lost 1-3 to VFL Wolfsburg at the German Cup final in Berlin, the "BVB" on Wednesday inked a contract with former Mainz coach Tuchel. The contract will run until June 2018, reports Xinhua.
The 41-year-old coach answered questions and talked about his future plans. He also praised his predecessor Klopp and his "outstanding work".
"I am very delighted to be officially Dortmund's coach with this press conference. During my sabbatical I had the desire to coach a top-flight and traditional club," Tuchel said.
Tuchel started his career as a Bundesliga head coach in 2009 in Mainz. During his five year spell with the "Nuellfuenfer", Tuchel was able to establish the club in the Bundesliga. He also guided Mainz into the Europa League twice. The 41-year-old coach is well known for his offensively minded style of play.
"Dortmund stands for attacking soccer. We want to play dominant and to recapture the ball as quickly as we can. I am looking forward to the great talent of the players following which I will decide what strategy we will implement," the new arrival said.
Dortmund's sporting director Michal Zorc explained why Tuchel is the best possible option for the "BVB": "Thomas has a very clear idea how to play this game. His teams stand out for their tactical flexibility. He is able to evolve teams and players. That's why I am looking forward to this collaboration."
Dortmund completed the Bundesliga season 2014-2015 on the seventh place of the table. Tuchel's predecessor Klopp resigned after seven years and three titles following a disappointing first half of the season in April. Klopp will take a break for the time being.
