Bantwal, Jun 3: A youth died on the spot in a collision between a lorry and a bike at Maddabarkata near Vagga here on Wednesday June 3.

The deceased has been identified as Dhanush (19), son of Nityananda Poojary and Sunita, residents of Pejattodi near Keddalike. He was a student of Vivekananda Polytechnic College, Puttur.

It is said that Dhanush along with his parents and other family members had been to a relative's house in Balepuni to attend a function. On the way back, Nityananda alighted at BC Road as he had to participate in a training programme in connection to gram panchayat elections, while his wife Sunita proceeded to Keddalike in the taxi. Their son Dhanush went separately in his bike.

Dhanush overtook the taxi in which his mother was travelling and went ahead. Near Barkata, a sand-laden lorry rammed into Dhanush's bike. By the time the locals came to the spot on hearing the sound of the collision, the lorry driver had already escaped. A critically injured Dhanush died on the spot due to heavy loss of blood.

Meanwhile, Dhanush's mother who was in the taxi noticed his bike while passing by that same spot. She stopped the taxi and got out to check, and much to her shock, found her son lying in a pool of blood.

The locals immediately informed the police and helped in shifting the body to Punjalkatte government hospital.

Dhanush was the only child of his parents. His father Nityanand Poojary is a resource person in the education department while his mother Sunita is a teacher at Ramakrishna high school in Puttur. His parents had recently bought him a new Pulsar bike. Dhanush was a talented student who had won the President's Medal in scouts.

Bantwal rural police have registered a case.

Organ donation

In a commendable gesture, despite the grief they are going through, Dhanush's parents decided to donate his eyes. The doctors of K S Hegde hospital performed the surgery till late night on Wednesday for this purpose.

Bantwal inspector K Beliappa, Bantwal traffic police inspector Chandrashekaraiah and local leaders visited the hospital.

    R.I.P Dhanush.
Guys when you read about death by accident please do not comment on the departed way of driving. No one in broad state of mind would want to end life by riding/driving recklessly. The departed soul's parents might be reading your comments as well...
For the betterment of another life, his parents out of ordinary decided to donate his eyes. Why don't we appreciate his parents gesture. May be his parents wants their son to breathe on another soul. One might never know....

After all.. Verily, To him we belong.. To him we shall return...

    Highly tragic...

No one can describe the pain, a mother losing her son, infront of her sight.

Great gesture of his parents, donating their son's eyes.

    RIP Dhanush

So sad to hear this news, such a young and only child of the parents lost his life.

Now a days Youngsters don't think about their life security specially while riding the two Wheeler.

Today I heard two more same kind of incident happened at our place. Two youngsters (they also only one child to their parents) of difference family lost their life

because of rash riding two wheeler.

How the family members specially their parents bear this huge loss of their young children.?

Almighty God, our creator give them strength and courage to bear the loss.

As per the report he overtook taxi in which his mother was travelling. It is wrong to blame sand laden truck ramming to the bike rather opposite. I have seen many bikers with no discipline and safety. May his soul rest in peace.

Collisions like these are very common and precious lives are lost. The solution to these mishaps would be to hold frequent and regular classes and insist on the erring drivers to attend these classes and warn them that their licenses would be suspended for failure to adhering to this norm.

It is truly sad that one precious life is lost. It happens again and again and again all over India. So, many families loose their loved one's. It is high time to do something about it. We need to look at the things in a prospective.
    1) The road network is very weak.
    2) People prefer to have their own vehicles, implies lot many vehicles, if resources available.
    3) Drivers of heavy vehicles run for big money. They drive very rashly, despite narrow roads and two wheelers around.
    4) There is no road discipline.

    How can be resolved?
    1. Panchayat level 3 committees comprising one member of deceased fly with 2 year term. They know the pain and they would not want to happen such thing to anyone. Each must have 5 members.
Committee a) Finance part of it, to make sure there is no gol maal.
Committee b) Quality and progress part of it.
Committee c) Priority roads and post completion analysis.
Committee d)To check on RTO functioning and rash drivers.

The kind of money India puts in its road network each year, can make world class roads and even pay such committees handsomely. Yet, the money going to corrupt babus and politicians will not make it happen. It is time to stand up to them nationally and locally.

With great anguish and pain, with high regards to the parents of this young man.

    I pray RIP.
