Mumbai, Apr 16: The Vokalacho Talo (Voice of Wakola) celebrated its first anniversary at the St Anthony School Hall recently here.
Well-known film director Gregory Almeida was the chief gust on the occasion. In his address he said that India being a secular country has promoted and nurtured different languages and cultures for years.
However, his expressed his apprehension over the excessive dependency on English over the mother tongue. “In this scenario, organizations such as Vakolacho Talo should strive to create awareness about the importance of mother tongue and try to promote the language at various levels without sidelining English which is necessary too,” he added.
Vakola parish priest Fr Richard Lasrado released souvenir on the occasion.
Former corporator Brian Miranda was the guest of honour while Amelia G Almeida, writer Henry D’Silva Suratkal and association president William D’Souza were also present on the occasion.
‘Konkani Jikta’ play written by association member Henry D’Silva and directed by Sunny D’Souza was staged on the occasion.
