Kundapur, Jun 3: St Philip Neri Central School (CBSE) at Basrur here was inaugurated in a befitting ceremony by bishop of Udupi diocese Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo on Tuesday June 2.
Addressing the gathering, bishop Dr Gerald said, "Education is more important for the progress of the country than economic development. The number of educated in the villages should increase. In this respect, it is necessary to focus on education that provides lasting results."
"Projects should be far-sighted. The basic education provided to children in the initial stages provides a strong foundation in the future years. It is necessary to prepare children to face the world. Strong foundation, noble thoughts and self-confidence enable children to be successful," he said.
"When educational institutes are able to shape children as citizens with good character who work for the prosperity of the country, the aim of the schools is accomplished. Our aim should be to succeed. Even though the Christian community in the country is only 1.08%, it has served 20% of the country. Our aim is to have CBSE education in five zones of Udupi diocese," he added.
The school building was inaugurated by donor, owner of St Antony Constructions Philip D’ Costa Koni.
Minister of urban development, Vinay Kumar Sorake released the calendar of the school. He said, "Christian community has contributed a lot to education and there are institutes amidst us which have completed three centuries. Our district tops the state in education. We have thought of starting a medical college. When private firms and individuals extend their support, the education sector can see more growth. It is necessary to have a strong foundation in the education system today."
Udupi education board secretary Fr Lawrence D’ Souza, released the flag of the school. He said, "Education is not confined to collection of information. It enables one to lead a humane life and make life fruitful."
Kundapur zonal chief priest Fr Anil D’ Souza inaugurated the bus service. Moodubelle St Lawrence Church parish priest Fr Clement Mascarenhas, Udupi diocese Chancellor Fr Valerian Mendonca, Mangaluru diocese Bethany Sisters congregation secretary advisor Sr Christila, Zilla panchayat vice president Prakash Mendon, Kundapur zone BEO Shobha Shetty and taluk panchayat president Bhaskar Billava were the chief guests. Church welfare committee vice-president Herald D’ Souza was present.
St Philip Neri church parish priest and convener of the school Fr Vishal Lobo welcomed. Philomena D'Costa block's donor Philip D'Costa, owner of St Antony Construction, engineer Sandeep Almeida, building construction supervisor Alfred Anegalli and convener of the school Fr Vishal Lobo were honoured on the occasion.
New principal Sr Jyothika informed the meaning of the flag. Teacher Lena and group resource person Pius D’ Souza compered the programme. Church welfare committee vice-president George Baretto was present.
