Beltangady, Jun 1: In a sad incident, the father of a girl who had died in a fire, which was later alleged to be an act of suicide, ended his life on Monday June 1.

The deceased is Ramanna Poojary, a resident of Kukrabettu under Marody gram panchayat limits.

His daughter Bhagyashree (18) had died in a fire at her house on April 6 this year. Ramanna reportedly hanged himself in the same house.

It is learnt that Ramanna was disappointed with the investigation into the death of his daughter, and hence took this extreme step. Bhagyashree's parents have been reportedly saying that the fire which killed her was accidental and were not convinced with the suicide theory put forward by the police.

Sources said that on Sunday May 31, a ritual was held in the house in connection to Bhagyashree's demise, during which Ramanna expressed his dissatisfaction with the probe.

Bhagyashree, who was known to be a bright student, had come home for revision holidays from Moodbidri where she was studying. On April 6, she was charred to death in a fire that engulfed her house when she was alone. It was later alleged that she had committed suicide due to love failure, and her cousin Guruprasad was arrested in this regard. It was also found that Guruprasad had planted a 'death note' in Bhagyashree's room putting the blame on a relative. He is still in custody.
