Mangaluru, Jun 1: After two months of summer vacations, schools across the city reopened on Monday June 1. Young students in uniforms travelling in school vehicles, auto rickshaws, vehicles of parents, etc filled the streets on Monday morning, and schools were abuzz with activity.

Many of them were seen walking to their schools. While many students were found to be enthusiastic, others were not so enthusiastic about going to school again.

Very young children will be introduced to education today, while old ones will meet their friends after nearly two months. Most of them will be having new teachers. Although the school reopening festival was ordered to be held on Saturday May 30, it was a low key affair, as teachers who were busy with gram panchayat election the previous day, did not have enough time to prepare for it.

Cleanliness and hygiene will be given added importance this time, and safety standards are expected to be enforced in respect of vehicles used to transport students. Parents are faced with the onus of having to spend more in terms of new uniforms, dresses, books, enhanced school fee, rain coats etc this time. Staff engaged with cooking of hot lunch programme will get busy from today again.
