Mangalore, Apr 14: The local traders of Suratkal have demanded the removal of the unauthorized shops which have come up on the plot earmarked for construction of bus stand.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday April 13, Mohammad Rafi, president of Suratkal Market Traders’ Association, urged the government to have the unauthorized shops demolished and have the bus stand construced early.

MUDA and Mangalore City Corporation have already allotted shops to these unauthorized shop owners at designated points. The authorities should compel them to go to the allotted shops. The permission given to open shops in the temporary sheds should be withdrawn, he demanded.

Because of slack business, traders are under trouble now. Hence, the City Corporation should allow the traders to pay their rent in instalments. Earlier, weekly market was held on Wednesdays. But an unauthorized changeover has been to Sunday, which should be reverted to the previous system, he further demanded.
