Paris, May 27 (IANS): Australia’s highest ranked male tennis player Nick Kyrgios said he doesn’t abide by the rules as he often enjoys pre-match sex despite his coaches ordering him not to. He also insisted that he doesn't "mess with any tennis chicks".
Kyrgios is currently competing at the French Open and partnered with India's Mahesh Bhupathi in men's doubles where the duo was knocked out after suffering a straight sets defeat in the first round here on Tuesday.
“I don’t abide by that rule. I don’t abide by that at all,” Kyrgios was quoted as saying by Australia's GQ magazine when asked about the common habit for sportspersons to abstain before a big game.
“There are definitely some advantages. You fly around the world doing what you love and that’s play tennis. And if you’re good enough, some of the top players have a lot of girls as well,” the 20-year-old, who attracts a lot of female admirers travelling the world on the circuit, said.
Kyrgios was last September linked to Belarusian Victoria Azarenka after her break up from controversial former X-Factor judge Redfoo.
“I won’t say any (names), but mate, a lot goes on. What happens on tour gets around fast, so you have to be careful. That’s why I don’t mess with any tennis chicks," the World No.20 said.
The Canberra-born made no apologies for being outspoken and controversial.
“I say what I think. People are so conscious of saying the right thing in front of the media that they hide how they truly feel. If I don’t agree with something, or think there’s a chance to say something funny, then I’m gonna say it,” Kyrgios said.
