Mangaluru, May 27: As curtains fell on campaigning for the gram panchayat elections, BJP district president, Prathap Simha Nayak on Wednesday May 27 expressed confidence that a majority of the people would favour BJP in the polls.
Addressing a press meet at the district BJP office here, he said, "We are hopeful that people will choose a majority of BJP-backed candidates in the gram panchayat polls. BJP has done good campaigning."
He further said, "A Congress minister had said that Modi magic will not work in the gram panchayat polls. I want to ask him - will people support thee sleeping Siddaramaiah government?
"A recent survey done by a media showed that 91% of the people are satisfied with the Modi-led administration at the center. But in the state, 98% are not satisfied with the Siddaramaiah-led government. This indicates that people will favour BJP in the gram panchayat polls," he added.
"We welcome the state government's move of handing over the lottery scam probe to the CBI. But Siddaramaiah's government wakes up from sleep only when it gets a slap from the opposition," he said.
He also alleged that even the lottery scam was taking place with the state government's 'endorsement' and this was an 'open secret'. "From past two years several mafias like sand, timber and land mafia are thriving in the state," he said.
"The Congress government is interfering in police department's affairs from Bengaluru to every rural corner in the state. Even this lottery scam has taken place with it's involvement," he alleged.
"People have lost faith in this state government. This will have an impact on the gram panchayat polls," he added.
Praising BJP MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, he said as per a report by a Kannada daily, Nalin Kumar stands first in terms of utilizing MP funds for development works. "The district BJP congratulates the MP on this," he added.
To a question on the complaint filed against the BJP for violating poll code, he said, "The district administration has issued a notice, and we will answer it. We have not violated the law."
Capt Ganesh Karnik, Kumble Sundar Rao and others were present.
