Doha, May 27: Nachom-ia Kumpasar (Let's Dance to the Rhythm), the award winning Konkani film once again is all set to enthrall Doha-based Konkani speaking community.
The film will be screened on June 5 at the Asian Town Theatre next to Grand Mall, Salwa, Industrial area at 4.30 pm organised by Goan Welfare Association.
The premier of the film that released late last year was held on November 28 at Royal Plaza Cinema in Doha Qatar.
The film is touted to be the best that Konkani cinema has seen in the last decade, and is still running houseful in Goa. The film has also bagged three national awards for the Best Konkani Film, Best Production Design and Special mention of Palomi Ghosh, at the 62nd National Film Awards Ceremony, in Delhi recently. The Goa legislative assembly offered their congratulations to the makers of the Konkani film 'Nachom-ia Kumpasar' for winning honours at the national awards and exempted from taxation by the government of Goa.
Screening the film in Doha, will give the young and old an opportunity to witness a musical era that has gone by. The film features 20 timeless songs from the golden era of the 60s and 70s originally written by stalwart Chris Perry and sung by Goa's nightingale Lorna Cordeiro.
The film is directed by Bardroy Barretto starring Vijay Maurya and Palomi Ghosh in the lead roles, besides our very own Prince Jacob and John D’Silva. The two Goan stage stalwarts will regale and surprise you with their most amazing and engrossing performance. The film was produced by Angelo Braganza of Goa Folklore Productions. Ronnie Monserrate and Jackson Pereira scored the music.
Goan singer, Cielda Pereira is credited with the vocals for most of the songs in the film, and all of the main songs are performed live and recreated to introduce an authentic touch to the musical setting. Ester Noronha, Mangalurean multi-lingual lass is a talented singer actor in Hindi and Kannada films. She has sang in Nachom-ia Kumpasar.
The film features well-known actors from Goa namely comedian Natto, Samy Braganza, comedian Kenny, Selwyn Braganza, Roy Menezes, Abdonio, Meena Leitao, Mathew Araujo, Meenacshi Martins, Carmo Santos and Roque Lazarus amongst others.
The film currently screening across the Middle East and will be screened in United Kingdom, United States, Canada, France, Australia and many other countries.
This will be a second opportunity for Goan’s as well as expats in Doha to witness this brilliant production and revel in the music. The film that was a crowd funded project was completed in three years and is co-produced by Doha based Olwen Pinto, Joaquim Barretto and Simon D’Silva.
Bardroy Barretto director of the film who was recently in Doha said, “Unless this film is watched by every Goan across the world, I cannot consider it a success. We are sure that with all the hype around the film and through word of mouth, the younger generation will come and watch the film as well.”
The director and the lead actress Palomi Ghosh were recently in Doha for the 15th Annual May Queen Ball where Ghosh performed two songs from the film and left the audience wanting for more. Simon D’Silva president of GWA says “During the May Ball the old as well as the young were able to meet the director and the lead actress personally and a lot of the youth were seen taking pictures with them, so we are taking it as a positive sign and hoping for a sell-out.”
