Margao, April 6: Sanvordem-Curchorem saw a calm day after tension was sparked off on Wednesday as two temples were desecrated in the twin towns of Sanvordem-Curchorem in south Goa.
Police brought the situation under control on Wednesday evening after resorting to lathi-charge on the mob who were trying to obstruct the roads. They arrested five persons who were later released on bail.
"Although the situation is peaceful now, still we have pressed a platoon of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) into service in the area and at all the religious places," said Shekhar Prabhudesai, Superintendent of Police (South).
"We are investigating the case of vandalizing the idols of temple," he added.
Shopkeepers and vendors of this area said they faced heavy losses as the agitators had called for a bandh on Wednesday.
