Panaji, Apr 4:  Two temples were desecrated in the twin towns of Sanvordem-Curchorem in south Goa leading to tension in the area.

Unidentified persons broke 'religious symbols' at the temples, situated five kilometres away from each other, on Tuesday night, police said.

Security personnel have been deployed in the two towns that had witnessed communal riots for three days in March last year when a structure housing a madarassa was demolished.

"We have pressed a platoon of India Reserve Battalion (IRB) to ensure that the situation is kept under control," Shekhar Prabhudesai, Superintendent of Police (South), said admitting that the situation remains uneasy in the twin towns.

A group of people gathered near the vandalised temple on Wednesday morning.

"Complaints have been registered and every step is being taken to ensure that tension does not aggravate," Prabhudesai said.
