Berlin, May 18 (IANS): Second division football champions FC Ingolstadt have sealed their promotion for Germany's Bundesliga following a 2-1 victory over Leipzig.
Ingolstadt wrapped up their first ever promotion for the first division as they overcame Leipzig with a 2-1 comeback win on Sunday. The second division front-runners are the 54th club who earn their promotion to Bundesliga's first division, reports Xinhua.
A victory for Ingolstadt was enough to lift the second division title and to ensure a berth for the first division next season.
However, things started the wrong way for the second division leaders as Leipzig shocked the hosts with the opener in the 4th minute.
Dominik Kaiser made use of a Yussuf Poulsen square pass inside the box to make it 1-0.
Ingolstadt recovered just before the break as Matthew Leckie converted a foul play penalty to restore parity.
Stefan Lex sealed the promotion for Ingolstadt when he marked the 2-1 winner 77 minutes into the game at the sold out Audi-Sportpark.
