Feud between Cong party members spills into public meet

Margao, May 18 (TOI): A feud between the faction-ridden Cuncolim block Congress committee erupted out in the open at the party's 'Lok Jagruti Melava', held near Chandor church on Saturday.

The public meeting, organized by one of the ticket aspirants for this constituency - former South Goa chairperson and Curtorim ZP member — Clafasio Dias, witnessed sparks fly between his supporters and that of the new entrant into the party, Adv John Monteiro.

Monteiro's supporters were enraged that he was not invited to dais, forcing the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Luizinho Faleiro to apologize for the 'misunderstanding', while making repeated appeals for unity among the party workers to ensure Congress victory in the forthcoming assembly polls.

Faleiro also made an unsuccessful bid to put to rest the clamour for granting a party ticket to Clafasio, that was made by his supporters comprising of Paroda sarpanch Deepak Kharangate and others, by stating that the party would consult the Congress district and block committee presidents and members.

Urging the party leaders to regain the public trust by visiting them and listening to their grievances, Faleiro said, "People are the masters, serve them better. Politicians are the servants of the people. It is their sacred duty to serve them."

Faleiro expressed satisfaction that the party organization had improved but added, that 'unity, discipline and consolidation of the organization' would ensure electoral success.
