Bombay Velvet to go down the same path as Roy for Ranbir Kapoor?

Mumbai, May 17: Ranbir Kapoor's much talked film Roy did not fare as well as expected at the box office despite robust business on its first day and Bombay Velvet opposite Anushka Sharma seems to be headed down the same route with none too flattering reviews getting printed out about it.

The story that revolves around a street fighter and a jazz singer whose lives are embroiled in the deep dark underworld thanks to the villain Khambatta played by Karan Johar seem to have failed at a fundamental level. While many have praised the attention to detail in every sequence as well as the astoundingly life like rendering of the Bombay that was, the story itself did not resonate with the audiences. The sets and garments in all their near authenticity, seem to overpower the actual story being told.

Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh took to Twitter to reveal the extent of business raked up by this much hyped venture. He tweeted, " #Besharam had collected ₹ 21.56 cr on Day 1 [2 Oct - holiday]. #BombayVelvet has collected 1/4th of that film on Day 1 [₹ 5.20 cr]." Having compared a previous flop venture by Ranbir Kapoor, Taran seems to bring out the abject failure of this, his latest release. Taran also gave his verdict, "#BombayVelvet Fri ₹ 5.20 cr. India biz. D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R."

Ranbir, Anushka and Karan Johar have given their best to this venture by Anurag Kashyap, but it remains to be seen if that in the coming weeks till transform into actual business at the box office.
