Goa court told to complete Tejpal's trial within a year

New Delhi, May 16 (DH): The Supreme Court on Friday granted one more year to Goa court to complete the trial against Tehelka’s founder-editor Tarun Tejpal in a 2013 sexual abuse case filed by a junior colleague.
A bench of Chief Justice H L Dattu and Justice Arun Mishra granted one more year on a letter from the trial court judge — district judge 2 and additional sessions judge, Mapusa —seeking extension of time.

The apex court had on July 1, last year granted regular bail to Tejpal but directed the Goa court to finish the trial within eight months.

Tejpal, 51, was granted interim bail for the first the time on May 19 after the death of his mother.

He has been out of jail since then.

He was arrested on November 30, in 2013 by the Goa police on charges of rape, sexually harassing and outraging modesty of a female colleague, who claimed to be friend of his daughter.
