Sullia, Mar 31: The police have arrested two persons in connection with the murder of a young man at Kallagundi near Sampaje here on Friday March 30.
Shashi alias Churi Shashi alias Sathish, a resident of Adoor in Kasargod who owns a travel agency in Mangalore and his friend Jaya alias Jayaram who is a mason in Sampaje are the prime accused in the murder of Sitaram Acharya. The latter was stabbed to death by the duo on Thursday March 29 morning.
Background:
Accused Jayaram is said to have involved in eve-teasing during some religious function at Kallagundi near Sampaje here on Wednesday March 28 night. This was objected by Sitaram's brother. But Jaya fought with him and even threatened him of assaulting.
When Sitaram came to know abut this, he went and asked Jayaram. But the latter abused Sitaram which resulted in verbal fight. Soon they were up in arms and their friends too joined them. Sitaram and his friends are said to have assaulted Jaya and his men.
An enraged Jaya wanted to avenge this. He sought the help of his friend Shashi who had come to attend the religious function. When Sitaram was on his way home on Thursday morning, they attacked and stabbed him 8 times. As a result Sitaram sustained serious injuries and fell unconscious.
He was immediately admitted to the hospital. But he later succumbed to the injuries in the hospital. Meanwhile the accused fled to Mangalore on Shashi's car. But as soon as the police received this information, they passed message to DCIB police in Mangalore. Finally the DCIB inspector Rajanna received the message that Shashi was trying to meet his advocate on Friday evening. Based on this information DCIB police arrested the accused and handed them over to Sullia police who are investigating the case.
The accused were produced in the court on Friday March 30. They were remanded to 15 days judicial custody by the magistrate.
