Mangalore, Mar 29: Research activities in the coastal area have increased in recent years, but the chancellor of Mangalore University TN Chaturvedi has expressed his dissatisfaction about the quality of the research. Hence, some regulations will be enacted in the forthcoming days to improve the quality of the research, said University vice-chancellor Prof KM Kaveriapppa.

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day state-level seminar on ‘Research Possibilities in Coastal Region’ organised by the Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy in association with Mangalore University Degree College Kannada Lecturers' Association, Shree Dharmasthala Manjunatheshwara Tulu Peetha of the University and Mangalore University College on Thursday March 29 at University premises.

Due to modern agricultural system, many varieties of paddy which are more resistant against diseases are disappearing today in this region. Research on this issue could help the development of the agricultural sector, Prof Kaveriappa added.

Chief guest of the function Dr Amruta Someshwara stressed on the need to stay away from prejudice and blind faith while undertaking research activities.

Tulu Sahitya Academy president MK Seetaram Kulal presided over the function. Dr Chinnappa Gowda delivered the introductory remarks. Dr Satyanarayana Mallipatna welcomed the gathering. SH Shivarudrappa proposed vote of thanks. Dr Gananatha Ekkar compered the programme.
