Fenwick Press Release

Chicago , March 27: Last Thursday, 19 members of the Fenwick debate team went to the IHSA State Tournament in Springfield for two and a half days of grueling competition.  In Student Congress, Jill Olszewski was voted best presiding officer in her chamber.  Three Friars, Margaret Bauer, Kelsey Peltz, and Laurel Javors broke from the preliminary rounds to the semifinals, and Laurel Javors went to the sweet sixteen in Super Congress, where Fenwick's bill, written by Ximena Alberttis, was debated.

Theresa Cederoth and Ann Murray were quarterfinalists in Public Forum, and both have been named to the All State team.  Their qualified opponents, Atina D'souza and Ryan Douglass, went all the way to the final, where they lost by 3 to 2 to a team which had not lost a single ballot until that point in the tournament.  D'Souza and Douglass, who was a last-minute replacement, are the state runners-up, and for the second year in a row, Atina D'Souza was named to the All State team.  Of the ten debaters in the Public Forum All State team, three are from Fenwick High School, Oak Park.  Congratulations to all who competed for a great finish to this season.
