Udupi, Mar 26: Union labour minister Oscar Fernandes visited Vasukinagar near Admar here from where 45 families were evicted a few days ago on Monday March 26 afternoon.
He met the families who are still continuing to stay there in the place. However, it is also noticeable that a few families who had their own houses elsewhere were staying in the land illegally. But after the eviction they have gone back to their houses. Meanwhile a few families who do not have any other shelter are still staying in the land with some hopes.
As reported earlier Yermal panchayat had evicted these illegal settlements almost a month ago with the help of police. Despite stiff opposition from Congress and the locals the gram panchayat had succeed in evicting the settlements.
When asked about his views on setting-up Nagarjuna Thermal Plant at Nandikur he said that he has been advocating gas-based plant for the district. He also said that he is with all those local leaders who have been opposing Nagarjuna.
Former MP Vinay Kumar Sorake, former state ministers Ramanath Rai, Vasant Salian, district Congress president M A Gafoor, former president Gangadhar Suvarna, Sayyad Ali, M P Moidinabba, Deepak Kumar, Sarasu D Bangera and Sharada Poojari were also present on the occasion.
